Special Collections

Special Collections at the University of Sussex will be moving to a new location during Summer 2013 called “The Keep.” The Keep is a new archival building, which will house the University’s Special Collections, East Sussex Record Office and Brighton and Hove’s Royal Pavilion and Museum archives. The Keep is due to open in Autumn 2013 and in order to prepare for this exciting move, Special Collections will be closed throughout summer 2013.

As some MSA delegates may want to take the opportunity to access archival collections held by the University, we have made arrangements for surrogate copies of the Monks House Papers (Virginia Woolf), The Leonard Woolf Papers and parts of the Mass Observation Archive to be made available for research within the University Library.

Bookings for access to these papers are available from 26 – 29 August and 2-4 September. Please contact library.specialcoll@sussex.ac.uk for further details.

In addition to these dates, we will be offering workshops during the conference for delegates to look at some highlights from our original archival collections. Details for booking onto these workshops will soon be available on the conference website.
