Formalist Poetry in the Age of Modernism
CFP: Formalist Poetry in the Age of Modernism
MSA 18, Pasadena, CA, 17-20 November 2016
Modernist poetics might include all sorts of experiment and innovations: it has largely been defined through negation, adding up to something like âeverything but traditionâ or, at least, âmake it new.â But what about those significant poets of the early twentieth century whose work adhered the formalist tradition by working within the recognizable genres such as the sonnet, the narrative, and the dramatic monologue? This panel welcomes work on major and minor poets including but not limited to Edna St. Vincent Millay, Robert Frost, Robinson Jeffers, Sara Teasdale, Louise Bogan, Claude McKay, and Jean Toomer.
Please send abstracts of 300 words or less and a brief bio statement by March 15 to Geneva Gano (firstname.lastname@example.org). (Note: this is a special session and not a guaranteed session).
