J. L. Austin, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and Stanley Cavell have each influenced not only philosophy of language but also the practice of literary criticism. This panel invites papers addressing any aspect of the relation between these thinkers and modernism in the arts, from the mutual indebtedness of their philosophical writings and modernist aesthetics to the application of ordinary language philosophy procedures to the study of modernist writers.
