All conference events will be at the Chicago Marriott Downtown. Located on Michigan Avenue in the liveliest part of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, this high-rise hotel is near the Art Institute, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and Navy Pier. Guest rooms are luxurious and spacious. Guests have access to an indoor pool and spa tub overlooking the city, steam rooms, and basketball courts. The 24-hour fitness center has exercise bikes, treadmills, and stair machines. Also available are a game arcade, three restaurants, two lounges, complimentary wireless Internet access, and an on-site Kinko's business center. A special rate of $149 (plus tax) has been arranged for conference registrants who register by October 13, 2005.

To receive the special rate, registration for the MSA Conference is required. Failure to register for the conference may result in forfeiture of room or increase in room rate.

Reservations requests must be accompanied by a deposit equal to the first night’s room and tax. Individuals may cancel their reservations up to 6:00 pm prior to arrival without penalty and receive a total refund on deposit.

To reserve a room, you can mail or fax the accommodation reservation form to the hotel. Or you can make your reservations on-line or by phone (be sure to ask for the Modernist Studies Association Conference promotional rate).

Room Deposit/No Show Policy

You can guarantee your reservation at the Marriott with a major credit card. You will not be charged a cancellation charge if you cancel your reservation twenty-four (24) hours prior to your arrival date. Late cancellations and no shows will be charged one night's room and tax.


On-site parking is available in Row Self Park Lot, located at 50 East Ohio Street. The cost for Marriott hotel guests is $28.00/day. Daily parking is also available ($6 for 1/2 hour) to a maximum of $23 for 12 hours. Valet parking is available for $34 overnight and $26 for up to 6 hours.


Overflow Hotel

Since the MSA room block at the conference hotel was filled as of September 28, the organizers have reserved a limited number of additional rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn Chicago Downtown/Magnificent Mile. This highly rated hotel is located quite close to the conference at the Chicago Marriott Downtown. The MSA rate at the Hilton is $167 per night. Airports and Ground Transportation

The Chicago Marriott Downtown is equally convenient to Chicago's O'Hare and Midway airports. An Airport Express bus runs from both airports to the hotel every 15 minutes. The one-way cost is $23 from O'Hare and $18 from Midway.

Taxis are approximately $40 from O'Hare and $30 from Midway. Travel time from each airport is 30-45 minutes, but it can be much longer in rush hour traffic.

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) trains run from both airports. The cost is $2.00, including transfer. From either airport, take the train to Washington Street. At Washington, transfer to the Red Line. Take the "Howard Street" train to Grand Ave. The hotel is 0.2 miles east of the subway exit. Travel time is about one hour.
